My name is Cheryl, and I’m 28 years old.

I’m a single mother of a six year old son.

I make wooden toys that I sell in a shop on Etsy.com called Mama Made Them.

I live in an old steel town in northern West Virginia in a house that is over 100 years old that I bought for $4,000.

My basement is coated in sawdust.

In 2011, I cut into the bone of my middle finger, but I still have at least some feeling left in it.

I don’t send my son to school.

I blog about our life free from school and regular employment, and our life full of home cooked meals, fun, work, travel, and family.

  1. Hello! I kind of forgot how east coast’s winters can get so humid, so chilly (I am from Quebec but living in a northern territory now). You are a brave soul, for sure! Living and working in the cold can be an interesting challenge but it can be worrying too! I have to say that you toys are certainly not letting us cold, tough! They really are heartwarming to look at. I can easily picture the fun they must bring to every house to go to. Ah! I can’t wait to order some from your shop!

  2. I remember those days as a single mom. One of the best parts about being a single mom is you get to parent exactly how you like. I love your Etsy shop, it sounds like you are teaching your son all the important things just from the way you live. Awesome.

  3. Hi MamaMadeThem!

    I found you on Etsy.
I LOVE your work. I’m preparing to create a music video for the song Siren Songs my debut EP (also) entitled Siren Songs. I’d like to buy quite a few of your items. Right now I’m looking at:

Bathtub Boat, Shark, Bathroom Dollhouse Furniture Set, Stegasaurus, Flying Dinosaur, African Animals, Triceratops, Mermaid, Bathtub Whale, Sea Serpent, and Walnut Reindeer.

I was wondering if there was any way you could cut me a deal for buying in bulk?

Thank you! I’m very excited to get my hands on some of your art! (The best part will be after shooting when I can have them on shelves and around my studio as art pieces)

  4. Hi Cheryl,

I met you the other evening when I stopped by your booth at the Rubber Duck Bridge Party. I LOVE your things and would like to talk to you about the possibility of selling some on consignment at our school’s Free Trade & Local Holiday Gift Shop. If you’re still interested, please contact me. Thanks!
